Louisville was just a nice Saturday morning drive down from Covington. It had been a long time since I had driven through that part of the country, and I enjoyed it. The morning reminded me to give special Thanks that I had been to three of the five Reunions and the weather had been perfect for all of them.
When I arrived at my Motel I called the hosts, Tony
and Sandy Wettig, and they suggested that they come by the Motel
and I follow them to Phillip (322) and Dotty Wettig's beautiful
new home where the afternoon Reunion would be held. It was great
to meet Phillip and Dotty and Tony (321) and Sandy for the first
time. Just as in all of the other Wettig Reunions it almost seemed
that I was greeting old friends.
Phillip is a Dentist and he
and Dotty have two daughters, Carla and Melanie. Tony
is a Commercial Photographer and he and Sandy have three sons
- Anthony (Antz), Jonathan and Joshua. Joshua did not attend the
Reunion. It was great to meet these young Macintosh enthusiasts.
To visit Antz just go to <http://www.gittew13.com> and maybe
you can find a T-shirt, or something, you might like. But, let
me warn you, there's nothing conventional there!
Joanne Elizabeth Wettig and I represented the older generations of the family descendant from Karl Heinrich Friedrich (63) and Maria Louisa (Wöbbeking) Wettig. Joanne (318) is the Librarian for Bellarmine College in Louisville. She has the Sea Chest that Maria Louisa used in 1849 when she crossed from Germany to Philadelphia and a very ornate childs dresser which was built by Karl Heinrich Friedrich in the style of the late 1800s. The story, as told by Joanne, is that Karl Heinrich Friedrich returned to Germany in the early 1860's to buy wood for cabinet and furniture making, and when he returned to Ohio he brought back some small favors and some linen which Joanne still has today. John S. Wettig also tells of that trip as a time when Karl Heinrich Friedrich returned to Germany in order to avoid conscription into the War between the States. I have not been able, yet, to confirm this trip.
Lisa and Don Wettig from Cincinnati were there for their third Reunion. What a wonderful couple they are and their presence added to the enjoyment of the the gathering.
Betty (Wolf) (646) and Donald Coonrod
were there representing the Heinrich & Wilhelmina (MessenbrinK)
Wettig side of the Family. Betty is descendant from Hermann (486)
and Bertha (Lenhoff) Wettig of Southern Illinois. Herman &
Bertha moved to St. Louis to rear their family of three daughters
and one son. Irene Wettig married Millard Wolf and they had two
children, Betty and Tom. You have already read about Tom as the
host of the St. Louis Reunion. Betty, a Pediatrician, is on the
Faculty of the University of Kentucky School of Medicine as a
Professor of Early Child Development. She married Don Coonrod,
who is also a Physician.
For me, the Louisville Reunion was a great success. Sandy and Tony and Dotty and Philip did a great job of entertaining the family for the afternoon. The Buffet they prepared was wonderful! I was ready for a good nights sleep before heading over to the next stop on the Reunion Trail. Carbondale, here we come!
