In April 1997, the Wettigs World Wide Newsletter announced a series of Wettig Reunions, planned for various parts of the midwest in late May. These Reunions are now history, and a great piece of history!
It was in January, 1997, when we were planning what we might do during the hot Arizona summer, that Erin reminded me that she wanted to spend some time in the Kansas City area before we set off on any other activities. I agreed, but I also had been giving some thought to spending a little bit of time working on the Wettig Family story over in Indiana and Ohio. Then it dawned on us that there is not much distance between Kansas City and Richmond, Indiana! And then, the logical sequence of thought said, "Well, if you're going to drive to Richmond you might as well go to visit all of those Wettig Hysterical spots in Cincinnati, Covington, Louisville, Carbondale and St. Louis!" And the more we thought about this the more sense it made. In March we decided to go ahead with the idea.
I called five Wettig family members in these areas and they agreed that this would be a good idea, it would be fun for everyone, it would help my work on the genealogy, and that they would do the necessary work to organize a Reunion on a day when I could be in their area.
We made our summer
plans, built around a round-robin of Reunions. All of our friends
assured me that this would be an impossible thing to do, I would
probably die before the end of the third Reunion, and the local
sponsors would give up three days before the event and tell me
to stay at home! My friends just didn't know the Wettig Family!
I had so much fun, met so many nice people (old and young), heard so many stories, saw so many people having fun with each other, saw Wettigs from one part of the family meet Wettigs from another part of the family, that I want to share some of this with you. It is amazing that all of the Wettigs that I have met in person and by phone and computer, have (with only one exception) been great, kind, caring people. I hope that you will read about each of the Reunions and enjoy them as I did..Now read on, and when you get ready to hold your family reunion let me know. If I can, I will be there!
