Does not know who he married, but they had two sons, Carl and Gustave, and two daughters, Lucretia (married Chase) and Annie (married Schuetz). The children were educated at McKendree College in Lebanon, Illinois. (The 1928 Centennial Yearbook of the McKendree College does not mention the Wettigs, but it may be that they attended but did not graduate.)
St Clair County Genealogical Society records that: Andrew Wettig was named Guardian of Francis Steigert whose mother, Marienne, was deceased. St Clair County History of the U. S. Post Office: Andrew Wettig was appointed Post Master on the 14 February 1854, for the Belleville Rock Road (near Main and Brady). He also ran a Grocery and General Store on the Brady Street where the Post Office was located. He is credited with being the first stationed Postmaster in this area. The US Census of 1860: Andrew Wettig, age 52, b 1808 in Germany, and his wife Louisa, age 39, b 1821 in Germany; with children, Anna, age 13, born 1847 in Illinois; Lucretia, age 10, b 1850 in Illinois; Victor, age 8, b 1852 in Illinois. (No mention of Carl or Gustav.)

These names fit the history of the family. Pansey was a niece, daughter of Carl (559) (Mother unknown). Also named was a nephew, Gustav II (564), son of Gustav (560) and Emma (Sternkopf) (573) Wettig. Carl (566) and Harold (567) are probably Grandnephews, sons of Gustav II (564) and Dora Hesse (574) Wettig.
The last of the heirs of Lucretia J. (Wettig) Chase was Anna Hesse. Anna Wettig (565), daughter of Gustav and Emma and sister of Gustav II, married Otto Hesse (572). They had two daughters that are known to this genealogy, Virginia Hesse (570) and Bernice Hesse (571). It may be that there is another daughter, Anna, who has not yet been brought to our attention.

Rick Wettig sent a copy of the Last Will of Anna Schuetz, in the County of St. Clair, and the State of Illinois, dated 8 November 1921. The Will was filed on 25th September 1929 and admitted to Probate on 22 November 1929, in the Probate Court of St. Clare County, Illinois. The Executor appointed was Charles A. Scherrer who was not further identified. There is correspondence indicating that the Southern Illinois Trust Company was serving as Administrator of the Estate as of March 17, 1930. Letter from Denise Wettig: From the information that I have, I think our part of the family is traced back to the Wettigs in St. Louis. Victor Wettig was my husband's great grandfather. My husband's Grandfather, Harold, was always told his father died when he was six months old when he was struck by lightning. Later he found that his parents had separated and no one knows where his father is (or was). His mother, Ella, remarried and had 3 more children.

Harold John died 1984. Ruth Fern died 1993. Information from Rick Wettig: Harold John Wettig lived in Escondido, Ca., 1013 West 11th Street. Harold ran away from home. He was in the Marine Corps during WW I. After the War he worked in Long Beach, Ca., as a fireman and served as a Police Officer on "Signal" Hill in Long Beach. He moved to Escondido in early 1940's and went back into the Marine Corps in WW II. After WW II he was in a service hospital for a year and then retired.
